Written Evidence:
How do books influence the minds of people? Books give us imagination through their imagery, so I took the subject, and had them daydreaming another reality. What we truly take away from books though are the characters. We sometimes get so engrossed in a character's life that we become them ourselves. When does this start to develop? As children we are given books by our parents to teach us important life lessons. Aging on we take their complex challenges, and entangle them into our own lives. By doing this we can also begin to see others' lives in a new light. Books are our keys to the world.
I first worked from a generalized statement and art, but as my ideas and my work developed it became much more personal. Struggling from coming at a straight-on view of the subject, I was encouraged through critiques to try harder perspectives to make my pieces more interesting. Finger painting symbolizes innocence and youth in 2. It was very hard to work with as it is difficult to paint small details, and the texture was very thick. Another process that was new to me and that I expounded upon was collaging with torn book pages. They became backgrounds and characters seen in 3, 4, 6.
